What are RCS AND GRS certifications?

WE ONLY USE RECYCLED FIBRE THAT is either rcs or GRS CERTIFIED.

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) are standards which verify the presence and amount of recycled material in fabrics and tracks the flow of raw materials from its source to the final product. They are international, voluntary standards that set requirements for third-party certification of recycled input and chain of custody. The shared goal of the standards is to increase the use of recycled materials. The GRS includes additional criteria for social and environmental processing requirements and chemical restrictions. The goal of the RCS & GRS is to increase the use of recycled materials in products and reduce and eliminate the harm caused by its production.

The RCS & GRS certification can be applied to companies in the textile industry with activity in ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, cutting, and stitching. The certification can also be applied to recyclers, distributors, and brands who want to have their recycled products and sustainable practices recognised by an international, reputable standard.

The standards are there to provide a trademark for customers, brands and consumers to recognise verified recycled products, to increase the use of recycled materials in products and to reduce the harm caused by its production to people and the environment. The standard wants to create a transparent market in which harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimised throughout the whole supply chain. Every year all companies in the supply chain are audited by a professional third-party certification body.

RCS certification guarantees at least 5% of certified recycled materials

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) guarantees:

  • at least 5% of certified recycled materials

  • traceability from recycled to the final product

Each stage of production is required to be certified, beginning at the recycling stage and ending at the last seller in the final business-to-business transaction. Material Collection and Material Concentration sites are subject to self-declaration, document collection, and on-site visits. It allows for the transparent, consistent and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of recycled material content claims on products.

The RCS 100 guarantees that the product contains 95-100% recycled content without any non-certified material of the same type.

The RCS Blended guarantees that the product contains 5-95% recycled content with no other restrictions on the remaining content.

GRS certification guarantees more than 50% of certified recycled materials

  • The Standard provides verification of chain of custody for Recycled Material, in accordance with the Content Claim Standard.

  • The Standard includes consumer-facing labeling; only products that have been certified up to the seller in the last business-to-business transaction are eligible. Only products with at least 50% Recycled Content qualify for product specific GRS labeling.

  • The Standard establishes criteria for social and environmental principles in processing GRS certified products.

  • The Standard restricts the use of hazardous chemicals in the processing of GRS products; it does not address the chemicals present in the Reclaimed Materials or what may be present in final GRS products.

GRS sites are required to meet strict social and environmental requirements. Chemicals with potential for harm are not permitted to be used on GRS products.
